Anke qualified in 1993 in Hanover, Germany. She wrote her thesis at the Institute of Pathology in Hanover and received a Doctorate for this in 1996. In the same year she started working for Mr Thompson.
In 2012 Anke became a Director of the Practice along with Ali. Anke has a dog, three cats and three horses.
Ali has worked here so long she cannot even remember when she started but we guess since 1983. She was always one of the main pillars of the Practice. She became head nurse when she qualified in 1998.
Michelle obtained a degree from Agricultural College before working as a Press Officer at the British Veterinary Association in London. She qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2005 from sunny Grenada in the West Indies, completing her rotations at the Royal Veterinary College. She worked at another veterinary Practice in the Sheffield area before joining Thompsons in June 2011. Her household includes 14 beautiful koi, a rescue cat, a re-homed hamster and a rehabilitated hedgehog that hibenates under the shed!
Emma qualified from Bristol veterinary school in 2001 and after working in London joined us in December 2012. She started as a temporary maternity cover and we liked her so much, we made her stay.
And we managed to convince her to adopt a little cat, who keeps the spiders away. In the future she plans to save up and buy a horse.
Helena has worked with animals since she left school and has an Equine Management Foundation. She has worked locally as an assistant veterinary nurse for five years. Helena is interested in canine and equine behaviour and psychology and is working towards a diploma in canine behaviour.
Helena likes all types of animals. She has many animals including two horses, Casper a 15 year old all-rounder and a five year old Welsh show pony, two lovely Jack Russel terriers called Alfie and Tilly, a small flock of varied chickens, including Gulliver the beautiful Buff Orpington and Harry the cockerel and some fish. Helena has also kept many small furries, including rats, hamsters, guinea pigs and rabbits.
Sue joined us in February 2009 after working in different small animal practices in the area. She qualified in 1994 from Edinburgh.
She loves working as a general practitioner but also has two children, so her time is shared between her family and us. Not forgetting her very special Thoroughbred mare, who is right up there on the list of important things in her life just before the two Border Collies and two cats.
Alex joined in January 2002 and qualified as an RVN in 2008. Her main interest is behavioral problems in dogs and she runs behavioural clinics during the week on a one-one basis. Outside work her first love is horses but her house is ruled by many cats!
Bekki joined us in 2013 as a veterinary nurse assistant to help with the increased workload by keeping patients happy and comfortable. We convinced her to become a veterinary nurse and she started her training course in 2016 and will soon be fully qualified.
Her love are her horses, which she and her mother have a few between them.
Jess qualified as an RVN in July 2017 after completing her final year of at Thompsons. She studied at Nottingham Trent University for five years, initially completing an animal management course before completing her veterinary nursing degree. She has a special interest in rabbits and the general anaesthetic of small furries. She has a family of three mad schnauzers and two mini-lop eared white rabbits. Jess has all her pets neutered and would advocate this.
Hannah joined us in June 2015. She obtained distinction in her first and extended animal care diplomas as well as in the City and Guilds level 3 in dog grooming from Riseholme College. She undertook her work experience one day a week at Thompsons for her courses, before working at Kennelgate pet shop. She has two lovely Border Collies.
Mandy joined us in 2008. She also worked at this big supermarket in the area, but decided to take the plunge and work at a much smaller place. Unfortunately her Border Collie doesn’t like us as much as she does. We have better luck with her Springer Spaniel who comes in quite happily with her tail wagging non stop and her nose to the floor!
Pamela joined us in 2006 having worked at a big supermarket in the area but prefers our smaller set up. She is in charge of Reception.
Pam has two lovely, albeit mad, border terriers called Hattie and Sid and unfortunately Sid will try to eat anything!
Karen is the most recent addition to the team at Thompsons and previously worked at one of the large local supermarkets and although she has changed location she still seems to be working alongside Pam!
She likes keeping all sorts of animals and has an eight year old cob called Patch who she hacks, a three year old guinea pig called Alfie, a thirty year old green amazon parrot called Barney, a leopard gecko called Lizzie and a seven year old Staffie called Zippy. Karen’s other passion is caravanning.
